Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Will Return to American Idiot

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will return to the role of St. Jimmy in American Idiot in January. Armstrong will appear in a total of 50 performances during January and February, beginning January 1, 2011. Tony Vincent, who originated the role of the sinister drug dealer, will play his final performance on December 30, 2010.

Armstrong will join the Idiot cast from January 1 through January 9 and return from January 18 through January 30. His final engagement will run from February 10 through February 27.

Armstrong is credited as a co-book writer of the rock opera based on his band's groundbreaking album of the same name. He previously appeared in the role of St. Jimmy for one week in September and helped the box office pull in a strong $1,092,334.

American Idiot currently stars John Gallagher Jr. as Johnny, Stark Sands as Tunny, Michael Esper as Will, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Whatsername, Christina Sajous as Extraordinary Girl and Mary Faber as Heather. The show opened at the St. James Theatre on April 20 and received three Tony nominations including Best Musical.
