As the curtain goes down on 2010, Broadway.com is looking ahead to the new year. We’ve asked the brightest stars on Broadway to reflect on their personal highlights from the past year and to reveal their hopes for 2011. Check out what they had to say, and have a Happy New Year!
SARA JEAN FORD (Christine Daae in The Phantom of the Opera
Highlight of 2010: It would have to be what happened while I was serving on The Most Boring Civil Trial in America. During jury duty, I suddenly got a call that I was needed that night to play Petra over at A Little Night Music. Even though I’d left that show to join Phantom, both of their covers were out! If I’d thought at the time that this was going to be the highlight of the year, it would have given me the opportunity to actually register what I was about to do and talk myself out of it. Instead, I found myself chucking everything I'd been taught in acting school and yoga class about “being in the moment” and began going over the lines and blocking I knew. I was in trial for about two and a half more hours and can't remember any of it. But I'm sure the court officer remembers me rocking back and forth and muttering to myself. Of course, when I was back on stage at the Walter Kerr with that amazing cast in an amazing role (that I’d never actually performed before that night!), I had no choice but to be in the moment. And thank god that I was, because it was rad! It was the highlight, I tell you!
Resolution for 2011: “To breathe and be more in the moment.”
