In the new off-Broadway drama Blood From a Stone, prodigal son Travis returns to his working class childhood home only to find his family spiraling towards a violent implosion. Broadway.com resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson had his work cut out for him when he set out to capture this intense family dynamic, as Travis (Ethan Hawke) lends a supportive shoulder to his sister (Natasha Lyonne) while standing strong amid the swirl of his unhappy parents (Ann Dowd and Gordon Clapp), ne’er-do-well brother (Thomas Guiry) and sometimes-lover (Daphne Rubin-Vega). To meet this volatile clan in the flesh, head to the Acorn Theatre where the New Group production is drawing fresh Blood through February 5!
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Photo by Matthew Murphy
