Looks like Dracula has taken its last bite out of the Big Apple: The off-Broadway revival of the classic vampire tale played its final performance on January 9 at the Little Shubert Theatre. The show closed after 25 previews and seven regular performances, directed by Paul Alexander.
Dracula began performances on December 14 and opened on January 5 for an engagement that had been scheduled to run through March 13. The Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston adaptation of Bram Stroker's classic novel featured Italian actor Michel Altieri as the title character in his New York stage debut alongside Tony winner George Hearn as Dr. Van Helsing and Emily Bridges as Lucy Seward.
The show also co-starred Timothy Jerome as Dr. Seward, Jake Silbermann as Jonathan Harker, John Buffalo Mailer as Renfield, Katharine Luckinbill as Miss Wells and Rob O’Hare as Butterworth. Film actress Thora Birch had originally been scheduled to star as Lucy, but was released from the production before performances began.
The country musical Lucky Guy will play the Little Shubert Theatre next beginning April 28.
