Broadway’s rip-roaring ‘80s metal musical Rock of Ages, which played its final performance at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on January 9, will re-open at the Helen Hayes Theatre on March 24. The show will follow Colin Quinn’s Long Story Short, which will play its last show at the Hayes on March 5.
The move is part of the previously announced game of Broadway musical chairs in which Rock shifts to the Helen Hayes and Broadway Beatles tribute Rain takes its place at the Atkinson, vacating the Neil Simon Theatre to make way for the forthcoming musical Catch Me if You Can.
Rock of Ages is set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip, where a small town girl meets a big city rocker in L.A.’s most famous rock club. Their love story is told through the hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Asia, Whitesnake and many more. The musical received five Tony nominations (including Best Musical) after opening on April 7, 2009.
