Mauricio Perez will take over the role of the love guru’s sexy sidekick Paco in off-Broadway’s Miss Abigail’s Guide to Dating, Mating and Marriage beginning February 2. Manuel Herrera, who has played Paco since Miss Abigail opened off-Broadway in October 2010, will play his final show on January 30.
Perez, who most recently appeared off-Broadway in the long-running musical Altar Boyz, originated the role of Paco in Miss Abigail’s pre-New York engagement in Tampa, Florida last spring.
Based on an advice book by Abigail Grotke, the comedy follows Miss Abigail, a sought-after relationship expert—played by TV’s Jan Brady, Eve Plumb—who helps celebrities with their chaotic love lives. Along with her sidekick, Paco, Miss Abigail travels across the world dispensing advice on dating. Miss Abigail is currently running at the Downstairs Cabaret Theater at Sofia’s. The piece was written by Sarah Saltzberg and Ken Davenport (who wrote about their collaboration here) and directed by Davenport. The show recently celebrated 100 off-Broadway performances.
