Complete casting has been announced for the New York premiere of Tony Kushner’s The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures, a collaboration between off-Broadway’s Signature Theater and the Public Theater. The production will begin performances on March 22 at the Public Theater and open on May 5. Michael Greif, who also helmed the show’s world premiere at the Guthrie in Minneapolis in April 2009, will direct.
Joining the previously announced Michael Cristofer, Linda Emond, Michael Esper, Steven Pasquale and Stephen Spinella are K. Todd Freeman, Bruce MacVittie, Hettienne Park, Molly Price, Danielle Skraastad and Brenda Wehle.
The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide is set in the summer of 2007, when Gus Marcantonio, a retired longshoreman, summons his children to the family’s Brooklyn brownstone for a series of shocking announcements. The play explores revolution, radicalism, marriage, sex, prostitution, politics, real estate, unions of all kinds and debts both repaid and unpayable.
The limited engagement is scheduled to play through June 12.
