Harry Connick Jr.’s Broadway concert, recorded in July 2010 during its run at the Neil Simon Theatre, will air on PBS on March 2 as part of the Great Performances series.
Harry Connick Jr. in Concert on Broadway, the singer's two-week summer solo engagement, featured a mix of standards, original compositions, and New Orleans street music, all arranged and orchestrated by Connick. The star's big band and 12-piece string section performed classics like “The Way You Look Tonight,” and “Bésame Mucho,” with the star taking center stage on both a Steinway grand and upright honky-tonk piano.
A triple-threat with credits in film, television and theater, the Grammy and Emmy Award winner has several multi-platinum and gold albums to his name, and is no stranger to Broadway. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his star turn in The Pajama Game, provided music and lyrics for the tuner Thou Shalt Not, and is rumored to be returning to the Great White Way in a Michael Mayer-helmed revival of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.
