Mike Birbiglia’s My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, a new piece written by and starring comedian Mike Birbiglia, will begin performances on March 18 at the Barrow Street Theater and officially open on March 31. Seth Barrish, who helmed Birbiglia’s previous solo show Sleepwalk With Me, will direct.
In My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, Birbiglia shares a lifetime of romantic blunders and miscues that most adults would spend a lifetime trying to forget. “It's the most cynically optimistic piece that I could write about love,” Birbiglia says of the piece, “It's a love letter to love. And I hope people love it. Or at least 'like' like it."
Mike Birbiglia’s My Boyfriend’s Girlfriend marks the writer/performer's return to the New York stage after his acclaimed 2009 off-Broadway show Sleepwalk With Me, for which he was nominated for the Drama Desk and Outer Critic Circle Awards. The play was the basis for Birbiglia's memoir of the same name and a 2010 national comedy tour. He has starred in three Comedy Central specials, made regular appearances on Public Radio International’s This American Life and appeared in the films Going the Distance and Cedar Rapids.
