Sierra Boggess will join Tyne Daly in the Manhattan Theatre Club's previously announced production of Terrence McNally's Master Class. Boggess will play Sharon, a student enrolled in opera singer Maria Callas' voice class. The production, directed by Stephen Wadsworth, begins previews on May 24 and opens on June 21 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Boggess is currently starring as Christine Daeé in the West End's Phantom of the Opera sequel Love Never Dies. She last appeared on Broadway as the title role in The Little Mermaid and has toured nationally with Les Miserables and also starred in Phantom! -The Las Vegas Spectacular.
Master Class is a portrait of the opera diva told through her recollections of the glories, triumphs, and tragedies of her own life and career. McNally's play originally opened on Broadway on November 5, 1995, and won 1996 Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actress (Zoe Caldwell) and Best Featured Actress (Audra McDonald). It ran for 598 performances, closing on June 29, 1997.
