Tony winner Idina Menzel is no stranger to sharing the stage with grand orchestras—in fact, she has perfected her belty, beautiful brand of show tunes, pop and standards for a while now. But on February 5, the Rent and Wicked star came home to NYC to play Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, conducted by none other than Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/Tony winner Marvin Hamlisch. In what we’re guessing is a first for the orchestra, Menzel brought the house down with Lady Gaga’s smash single "Poker Face"—though, luckily for the uptown audience, she performed sans egg/vessel/womb or whatever it was that Lady Gaga emerged from at the Grammys earleir this week. Menzel also offered Willow Smith something to aspire to with "Tomorrow" from Annie and knocked it outta the park with Hamlisch's timeless “What I Did for Love” from A Chorus Line (accompanied by the maestro himself).Catch up with diva below.
