Tickets are now on sale for the Broadway premiere of Larry Kramer’s 1985 play The Normal Heart, which begins its 12-week engagement on April 19 and officially opens on April 27 at the Golden Theatre. Tony winner Joel Grey, who helmed an Actors Fund staged reading of the play in October 2010 and played the leading role in the original off-Broadway production of the play, will direct.
The Normal Heart focuses on the terrifying early years of the AIDS epidemic in New York and centers on writer/activist Ned Weeks, played by Joe Mantello. The supporting cast will include John Benjamin Hickey as Ned’s lover, Felix Turner, and Ellen Barkin as Dr. Emma Brookner. 30 Rock star Cheyenne Jackson is in talks to join the project. Additional casting is expected to be announced shortly.
