Tony nominee Christopher Sieber has been tapped to play Georges opposite Harvey Fierstein as Albin in the Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles. Sieber replaces Jeffrey Tambor, who withdrew from the show on February 24 after a week of performances, citing complications from hip surgery. Understudy Chris Hoch has been playing Georges in the interim at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre; no start date for Sieber has been announced.
A Tony nominee for Shrek the Musical and Spamalot, Sieber has appeared on Broadway in Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Into the Woods, Triumph of Love and A Christmas Carol. His off-Broadway credits include The Kid, Avow and The Boys in the Band. His many TV and film credits include Pushing Daisies, Morning Glory, Two of a Kind and Sex and the City.
Sieber had been set for a limited engagement this month as Billy Flynn in Chicago but has been cleared to switch shows by Chicago and La Cage producers Barry and Fran Weissler. Jeff McCarthy (The Pirate Queen, Urinetown) will now step in to Chicago from March 8-25 at the Ambassador Theatre.
