Before Opening, Wonderland Hits the Studio for Original Broadway Cast Album

Wonderland, an updated version of Alice in Wonderland with music by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde), will head into the studio on March 6 to record an original Broadway cast album. The album, produced by Wildhorn, David Lai and Jason Howland, is being released by Sony label Masterworks Broadway and be available in May 2011. Previews for Wonderland begin March 21 at the Marquis Theatre, where the show will official opens on April 17. Gregory Boyd directs.

A new spin on the timeless story of Alice Through the Looking-Glass, Wonderland is about a modern-day woman who goes on a life-changing adventure far below the streets of New York City, where a colorful cast of strange but familiar characters help her rediscover what’s really important.

Janet Dacal stars as Alice, and leads a cast that also includes Darren Ritchie, E. Clayton Cornelius, Jose Llana, Karen Mason, Kate Shindle, Carly Rose Sonenclar and Edward Staudenmayer. In addition to music by Wildhorn, Wonderland features a book by Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy, and lyrics by Murphy.
