Tony Award winner Scarlett Johansson sat down with Mad Men star Jon Hamm and The Office star John Krasinski for a recent reading of Philip Barry’s The Philadelphia Story, according to Variety. The Los Angeles-based reading was rumored to be under the auspices of Roundabout Theater Company with an eye on a future Broadway production, but the organization has not confirmed the report. The reading was reportedly directed by Alex Timbers (The Pee-Wee Herman Show, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).
The Philadelphia Story centers on a socialite whose wedding preparations are complicated by the appearance of her ex-husband and a charming reporter. The play bowed on Broadway in 1939 starring Joseph Cotton, Van Heflin and Katharine Hepburn, who went on to reprise her role opposite Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart in the 1940 film adaptation.
Johansson, who won a Tony Award for her Broadway debut in the 2010 revival of Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge, has appeared in such films as Lost in Translation, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Iron Man 2 and The Black Dahlia. Hamm is best known for playing rakish ad exec Don Draper in TV hit Mad Men; his film credits include The Town, The Day the Earth Stood Still and Kissing Jessica Stein. Krasinski, who stars on The Office, has appeared in films like Away We Go, Leatherheads and License to Wed.
