Screen stars Katie Holmes and America Ferrera will headline an upcoming reading of William Mastrosimone's play Extremities, according to Variety. The drama, which will also star Pablo Schreiber and Kimberly Elise, centers on a woman who turns the tables on a would-be rapist when she is attacked in her home.
Producer Debbie Bisno confirmed to the trade publication that Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun, Fences) is scheduled to lead the starry cast in a private table reading of the piece. No final casting or timeline is set for a full production. The original 1982 off-Broadway production of Extremities starred James Russo and Susan Sarandon. Sarandon's leading role was later taken over by Farrah Fawcett who went on to star, with Russo, in a 1986 film adaptation.
Holmes made her Broadway debut in the recent revival of All My Sons and has appeared in films including Batman Begins and Mad Money. Ferrera, best known for her starring role on the late TV hit Ugly Betty, has appeared off-Broadway in Dog Sees God and is rumored to star opposite Julia Stiles in an upcoming production of Neil LaBute’s Reasons to be Pretty on the London stage. Schreiber earned a Tony nomination for his role in Awake and Sing! and recently starred opposite Jennifer Carpenter in Gruesome Playground Injuries at Second Stage Theatre. Elise’s film credits include The Manchurian Candidate, Pride and For Colored Girls.
