Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark will temporarily close on Broadway on April 17, 2011 to allow for rehearsal time for new changes being prepped for the mega-musical. It will then start up preview performances again on May 12, 2011 with a new opening night set for June 14, 2011.
All performances between Tuesday, April 19 and Wednesday, May 11 have been cancelled. In addition, performances on June 12, June 14 and June 15 have also been cancelled. Additional shows have been added on June 13 at 7:30PM and June 17 at 2PM.
Any ticket holders who purchased seats for cancelled performances through Broadway.com should call 1-800-BROADWAY for further information about refunds and exchanges.
As previously announced, director Philip William McKinley (The Boy from Oz) and playwright Robert Aguirre-Sacasa have joined the creative team of the show to implement new staging and script rewrites. Due to the new schedule, director and co-book writer Julie Taymor will no longer continue in her day-to-day duties with the production.
