Could Modern Family beauty Sofia Vergara join the cast of the upcoming In the Heights film as feisty hairdresser Daniela? Broadway.com caught up with the musical’s composer and original star Lin-Manuel Miranda, who recently filmed a guest spot on the hit TV show, to find out if the rumors are true.
“Sofia Vergara is like a national treasure,” Miranda said on the opening night red carpet of John Leguizamo’s Ghetto Klown, “It would be amazing if she could join us, but she is on a hit show and has a really tough schedule, so we’ll see what happens.”
Belting out Heights’ salsa-flavored songs, including Daniela’s ode to gossip “No Me Diga,” shouldn’t be much of a stretch for Vergara. The actress made her Broadway debut as Mama Morton in Chicago in 2009.
As for Miranda’s own Modern Family appearance, the actor says he can’t wait for the episode to air later this spring. “They have me playing a really out there character,” he said. “It was intense. [The Wonder Years star turned director] Fred Savage directed my episode so I was around quite a lot of people I revere. I just tried to stay in my lane and do my best. I’m really excited to see how it turns out.”
