The off-Broadway family musical Freckleface Strawberry has announced a closing date of April 24 at New World Stages, with plans to reopen on August 3 at the new MMAC (pronounced “Mack”) Theatre, a 199-seat venue in the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center. This musical adaptation of Julianne Moore’s children’s book opened on October 1, 2010, directed by Buddy Crutchfield.
Freckleface Strawberry currently stars Spring Awakening vet Remy Zaken in the title role alongside former American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar, Julia Bray, Andrew Cristi, Linda Gabler, Kimiko Glenn, Mykal Kilgore and Morgan Smith. No casting has been announced for the August re-mounting of the show.
The story of a spunky seven-year-old girl who learns to love her red hair and freckles, Freckleface Strawberry has a score by Gary Kupper and book by Kupper and Rose Caiola.
