Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s debut Broadway show The Book of Mormon is billed as “God favorite’s musical.” Broadway.com caught up with the talented twosome to find out if they truly believe that their raunchy musical romp qualifies as God’s top choice.
“We fact checked that,” Parker joked. “We have a direct line to God,” Stone added. “He wrote this through us,” Parked chimed in.
So after seven years of working on a show about Mormons, do Parker and Stone have any interest in converting to the faith? “We should get honorary Mormon degrees,” Stone said. “It’s like being knighted,” Parker replied. “We’re going to get the call any minute from Salt Lake City.”
Despite their affinity for sarcasm, Parker and Stone were truly thrilled and gracious on their opening night. “It has been pretty fun,” Stone said of working on the musical, “It’s opening night and everyone seems to be in a good mood. People love the show.” Parker agreed noting, “There’s tingling in the bottom of our shoes!”
