John Scoullar, a Broadway performer and theater writer, died on Friday, March 25, following a battle with skin cancer. He was 61.
Scoullar appeared on Broadway in the 1978 musical King of Hearts, having worked earlier as a stage manager on the Andrews Sisters musical Over Here! His off-Broadway acting credits include The Hot L Baltimore, God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, The Crazy Locomotive and Hello, Dears at the Players Theatre, which he also wrote.
A musical version of The Little Prince that Scoullar wrote with Rick Cummins will play The New Victory Theatre in October 2011. His other writing credits include Old Fashion Bargain Days, Canticle and the musical The Legend of Finn McCool.
Scoullar is survived by his son Nick and partner Bradshaw Smith, producer of the TV show Broadway Beat.
