The ABC series Grey’s Anatomy is airing it’s “Music Event” on Thursday, March 31 and Tony-winning Broadway diva Sara Ramirez will be the singing centerpiece of the dramatic episode. “It’s pretty exciting,” Ramirez told Broadway.com. “The whole cast and crew worked incredibly hard on it. I’m so proud of it.”
On the last episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Ramirez’s pregnant character, Callie, got into a car accident just moments after her girlfriend Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) proposed marriage to her. The March 31 episode starts with a bloody Callie on the hood of the car having crashed through the windshield and having an out-of-body moment that kicks off the songful, emotional episode.
Ramirez isn’t the only cast member singing on the episode, which features eight songs by various pop and rock artists. “I gotta tell you,” she said. “We’ve got some great singers in our cast! I work with some of the smartest, talented, most ambitous people I’ve ever met in my life and I was so impressed and inspired with how everyone showed up and did their thing.”
Singing on Grey’s Anatomy inspired Ramirez to explore her own musical side. “It was a great opportunity for me to continue experimenting with myself as a musical artist,” she said. In fact, Ramirez released a four-song EP on iTunes this week which features three original songs and one of her Grey’s tunes, “The Story” by singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile.
“I’m just thrilled to have it out there,” she said with a smile.
