London stage vets Alex Kingston and Ben Daniels have joined the cast of Freidrich Schiller’s Luise Miller at London’s Donmar Warehouse. The play, being performed in a new version by Mike Poulton, will begin performances on June 8 and open on June 13, directed by Michael Grandage.
In addition to Kingston and Daniels, the cast of Luise Miller includes Felicity Jones in the title role, as well as Max Bennett, David Dawson, Lloyd Everitt, Paul Higgins, John Light, Alexander Pritchett and Finty Williams.
Schiller's masterpiece of power and politics explores the battle between honor and corruption, between truth and betrayal. Ferdinand, son of the most powerful statesman in the land, is willing to forsake his fortune for the love of Luise, daughter of a humble musician. But in a world governed by deception and greed, where power is everything, their future happiness and liberty are beyond their control.
Kingston, best known for her role as Dr. Elizabeth Corday on late medical drama ER, was last seen the London stage as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at the Garrick Theatre. Her other TV appearances include Doctor Who, Law & Order, CSI, Ben Hur and Moll Flanders. Daniels has appeared on Broadway in Les Liaisons Dangereuses; he has previously been seen at the Donmar in The Wild Duck, The God of Hell and Tales of Hollywood. He won the Olivier Award for his role in All My Sons.
Bennett’s previous London stage credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fabrication and Mrs. Warren’s Profession. Dawson has been seen in Posh, Comedians, Romeo and Juliet, Richard II and Nicholas Nickelby, among others. Everitt has been seen on stage in The Dug Out and Devon Country. Among Higgins’ theater credits are Caldeonia, Black Watch, The White Guard and Damascus. Light’s UK theater credits include The Master Builder, Certain Young Men, True West and The Giant. Williams has been seen on stage in Twelfth Night, Bedlam, Bedroom Farce and Tons of Money, among others, and Luise Miller marks Pritchett’s professional stage debut.
Luise Miller features design by Peter McKintosh, lighting design by Paule Constable and features Adam Cork as composer and sound designer. The limited engagement will run through July 30.
