Catch Me If You Can star Norbert Leo Butz and off-Broadway regular Kathleen Chalfant will announce the nominees for the 2011 Drama League Awards on April 26 at SD26 Restaurant. The awards ceremony and luncheon will be held on May 20 in the Marriott Marquis Hotel ballroom, hosted by High leading lady Kathleen Turner.
Butz and Chalfant will announce nominations for the Drama League's five competitive awards, including Distinguished Production of Play, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Play, Distinguished Revival of a Musical and the Distinguished Performance Award. Approximately 50 stars from Broadway and off-Broadway productions are nominated for the annual Distinguished Performance Award and appear together on a dais at the annual awards luncheon. Butz and Chalfant are previous winners of this singular honor for their work in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Wit, respectively.
As previously announced, non-competitive Special Recognitions will be given to Whoopi Goldberg (Unique Contribution to the Theatre Award), Liza Minnelli (Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award) and Susan Stroman (Julia Hansen Award for Excellence in Directing).
Proceeds from the Drama League Awards luncheon benefits the organization's Directors Project, which encourages and trains young talents while providing much-needed exposure and essential connections to the professional theatrical community.
