A stage full of disco-dancing nuns was just one of the spectacular sights awaiting Broadway.com resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson as he took in the high spirits and sequins of Sister Act at the Broadway Theatre. After checking out this story of a glamour girl turned murder witness in hiding, Squigs sat down to capture the fabulous Deloris Van Cartier (in a Broadway debut from Patina Miller) on paper, with Mother Superior (Victoria Clark) looking over her shoulder, and fellow nuns (from left) Sarah Bolt, Audrie Neenan and Marla Mindelle singing back-up. Take in his pitch-perfect portrait, then head to the Broadway Theatre to see these sisters strut their stuff.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Photo by Matthew Murphy
