The Normal Heart burst into off-Broadway’s Public Theater in 1985 with a fury befitting its subject, and now Larry Kramer’s landmark play about the early days of the AIDS crisis in New York City’s gay community is finally readying for its Broadway debut. The revival stars Tony-winning director Joe Mantello, appearing on stage for the first time since playing Louis Ironson in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, as Ned Weeks, the gay Jewish founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group. He is joined by an ensemble cast that includes Ellen Barkin, John Benjamin Hickey, Lee Pace, Jim Parsons, Patrick Breen, Richard Topol, Wayne Wilcox and Luke Macfarlane.
