Tony winners Matthew Broderick and Anika Noni Rose announced the nominations for the 65th Annual Tony Awards May 3 at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts' Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center at Lincoln Center.
Topping the list with a whopping 14 nods (which is high but not record-breaking—The Producers and Billy Elliot share that crown with 15) is The Book of Mormon. Also garnering a boatload of nominations are the now-closed Kander and Ebb musical The Scottsboro Boys (with 12) and the only musical revivals of the season: Anything Goes (with nine) and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (nabbing eight). On the play front, the Al Pacino-led production of The Merchant of Venice received seven nods and new plays Jerusalem and The Motherf**ker with the Hat each received six noms.
