The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2011 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Glenn Slater, lyricist
Nominated for Best Score, Sister Act
“I woke up with my wife and we just listened to the announcement and jumped up and down. [Sister Act] was such a fun score to write and such a fun show to work on, and it’s very gratifying to be recognized this way for all that work. When you sit in the audience and see the way people react to the music they’re just having a fantastic time, so I’m not surprised we were recognized. It’s a score that’s hitting exactly where we wanted it to, and we’re getting a great response. I’ve been having a really nice morning. I’ve been calling some of my friends in other shows to congratulate them and now, to celebrate, I think I’m probably going to go back to sleep!”
