The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2011 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Andrew Rannells
Nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, The Book of Mormon
"I’m not going to lie and try to play it cool: I totally woke up and turned on NY1 to watch the nominations. I’m just completely floored. I’m so happy that the show was so well represented. I’m still in shock. This is just more than we could ask for. My first phone call was from [co-star and fellow Best Actor nominee] Josh Gad. [Both of us receiving nominations] is just the best possible scenario. I couldn’t be happier that we’re both recognized. I’m so excited for everyone, [Mormon composer and co-director Trey Parker] in particular because he’s such a musical fan to begin with and really pushed this show through. What a nice welcome to the Broadway community! The show was labeled as ‘God’s Favorite Musical,’so maybe this is evidence of that. At least the Tony gods!"
