The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2011 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Adam Godley
Nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Anything Goes
"I was asleep with my earplugs in and a good friend of mine, Stafford Arima, called before the nominations were even finished being announced. I must say it’s a lovely way to wake up on a sunny morning in New York City. It doesn’t get much better than that. To be on Broadway in a great American musical like Anything Goes and have it celebrated is amazing. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think I’d be nominated [for being in a musical]. It’s a tribute to Kathleen Marshall and Rob Fisher, our musical director, that they believed in me and never wavered in their belief that I could do it when I was seriously wavering. If you’re surrounded by people who believe in you, it just shows anything is possible. To celebrate, I’m probably going to have some fried chicken. I love it, and I’ve been told of a fabulous place, so I’m going to go indulge my love of fried chicken."
