The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2011 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Victoria Clark
Nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Sister Act
“I’m so excited! I’m really thrilled, and excited for my colleagues and excited for our show. I was trying to forget that [Tony nominations] were this morning and my son was like 'Oh, let’s just go over to the television.' We just missed my category so it was like, 'Oh, well!' It hadn’t been posted online yet so we were like, 'Oh, well!' and I didn’t have any messages so I thought, 'Oh, well! That’s OK, whatever, it’s a tough year.” Then I got the call from my manager. I’m just thrilled to death. I really love my role. She’s such a complex and funny and sort of heartbreaking character. It’s a huge deal, and our show definitely has an ensemble feel so this is recognition for the whole company. I think now I’m just going to take the dog for a run and go back to bed probably. It’s going to be a busy month! I feel like a very lucky actress this morning.”
