Every young actor dreams of making it to a Broadway stage, and actors of every age dream of making it to the Tony Awards. Some very lucky—and very talented—young stars, like Sister Act leading lady Patina Miller, see these dreams come true in the very same year. On May 3, just two weeks after Sister Act’s Broadway opening, the actress was announced as a Tony Award nominee for Best Actress in a Musical, one of the show's five nominations, including Best Musical. After winning raves in London, Miller is making her Broadway debut as Deloris Van Cartier, a disco-loving Donna Summer wannabe who has to give up her sequins for a nun’s habit when she witnesses a murder and goes into hiding in a convent. The day after getting the big nomination news, Miller invited Broadway.com photographer Jenny Anderson and reporter Gemma Wilson to tag along as she prepped for the first big event, the Tony nominees press reception, known in the biz as the Tony brunch.
