Five super-talented singers have formed a super-group to raise money for organizations in need. Calling themselves “the League of Broadway Super Friends,” Kelli O’Hara, Sherie Rene Scott, Gavin Creel, Greg Naughton and Lindsay Mendez will perform a series of benefit concerts for selected charities. First up: a June 7 gig at Le Poisson Rouge, with proceeds donated to pancreatic cancer research. The group is sponsored by Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records.
The League of Broadway Super Friends is described as a five-part-harmony singing group joining forces and voices for good. Their initial concert will feature music direction and arrangements by Marco Paguia and additional arrangements by Todd Almond. Additional events and beneficiaries will be announced soon.
O’Hara is a three-time Tony nominee for South Pacific, The Light in the Piazza and The Pajama Game and has appeared on Broadway in The Sweet Smell of Success, among others. She has recently been touring the country singing with jazz trios and symphony orchestras.
Scott, who most recently appeared on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, received dual Tony nominations for writing and starring in Everyday Rapture. Other Broadway credits include a Tony-nominated performance in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Little Mermaid and Aida.
Creel, a Tony nominee for Hair and Thoroughly Modern Millie, has appeared on Broadway in La Cage aux Folles and on the London stage in Hair and Mary Poppins. He recently released a solo EP titled Quiet.
Naughton is a singer-songwriter best known for his work in his own band, the Sweet Remains. His songs have been covered by many artists, including his wife and League of Broadway Super Friends collaborator, Kelli O’Hara.
Mendez has appeared on Broadway in Everyday Rapture and Grease and off-Broadway in The Marvelous Wonderettes.
