In the final days leading up to the 2011 Tony telecast, Broadway.com is posting videos of favorite Tony memories of this year’s nominees, with their own commentary. Andrew Rannells, a Best Actor nominee for his performance as Elder Price in The Book of Mormon, recalls the nominated musicals of the 1993 ceremony.
“I watched the Tonys a lot as a kid, but the first one I really remember obsessing about was the year Blood Brothers, The Goodbye Girl, Kiss of the Spider Woman and Tommy were nominated. Seeing all those shows perform their numbers, [Broadway] all seemed so cool and new. I just lost my mind about that one. I think that’s when I made an internal decision that acting is what I wanted to do with my life.”
