Academy Award nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg will star in a self-penned play, Asuncion, as part of the Rattlestick Playwrights Theater's 2011-2012 season. Directed by Kip Fagan, the production will begin performances on October 12 at off-Broadway's Cherry Lane Theatre, with opening night set for October 27. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Ascuncion is described as follows: "Edgar and Vinny are not racist. In fact, Edgar maintains a blog condemning American imperialism and Vinny is three-quarters into a Ph.D. in Black Studies. When a young Filipina woman named Asuncion becomes their new roommate, the pair have a perfect opportunity to demonstrate how open minded they truly are."
Eisenberg received an Academy Award nomination for The Social Network. His many other film credits include Zombieland, Adventureland, The Squid and the Whale, Rio, Solitary Man, The Education of Charlie Banks, The Village and Roger Dodger. He previously wrote the play The Revisionist and music and lyrics for the musical Me Time!
Rattlestick's season will also include Dan Klores' The Wood, Dael Orlandersmith's Horsedreams, Daniel Talbott's Yosemite, Jose Rivera's Massacre (Sing to the Children) and David Adjmi's 3C.
