Dates have been set for the West End transfer of Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy, starring Vanessa Redgrave, James Earl Jones and Boyd Gaines, according to London’s Daily Mail. The play will begin performances at Wyndham’s Theatre on September 26 and run through December 17. Jones hinted that he would be open to an extension, telling the Mail that his wife, Cecilia Hart, “would like staying in London over Christmas.”
David Esbjornson’s production of Daisy was a commercial hit on Broadway, where it opened on October 25, 2010, for a limited engagement that extended through April 9, 2011, earning a Best Actress Tony nomination for Redgrave. The play, which was first produced off-Broadway in 1987, centers on the decades-long relationship between a wealthy Jewish woman in Atlanta and her African-American chauffeur.
