After a two-show day, Broadway’s pet-owning performers love nothing more than coming home to their number one fan: a loyal four-legged friend. In honor of the annual Broadway Barks dog and cat adoption event, coming up on July 9 in Shubert Alley, we asked stage stars to show their puppy—and kitty!—love by telling us all about their furry pals.
SUTTON FOSTER (Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes)
What is your pet’s name and breed?:
Linus. He's a Shih tzu.
How did your pet get its name?
He is a very passive, sweet dog so Linus just seemed like a perfect fit.
What is your pet’s favorite pastime?
He's obsessed with squeaky dog toys—balls, anything that squeaks. He loves to chase after a ball outside in the grass or sliding on my hardwood floors. He can play for HOURS.
Does your pet know any tricks?
He can sit, go down, shake with both paws, high five (or high 10), crawl, stay and pee on command.
What’s the funniest thing your pet has done?
Well, it would pretty much have to involve a ball—he gets quite obsessed with them. No matter where a ball goes he will follow—under a couch or under a piece of furniture or in a wine rack—and all you see are little legs poking out from underneath furniture with him scrambling to get the ball. He constantly entertains me with his antics…and he entertains himself.
What’s the naughtiest thing your pet has done?
In general he's pretty well behaved, although he's eaten the tops of a box of cupcakes and a whole bag of chocolate-covered espresso beans (not good).
Do you look like your pet?
Not necessarily although we have similar personality traits.
