Daisy Eagan, the youngest actress ever to win a Tony Award, will return to the New York stage in the new musical Ghostlight, which will presented at the 2011 New York Musical Theatre Festival. The show will run September 26-October 9 at Signature Theatre's Peter Norton Space, co-directed by Matthew Martin and Tim Realbuto, who collaborated on the book, music and lyrics.
Ghostlight excavates the true story of Olive Thomas (Racheal Fogle), a small-town girl who rises to fame alongside Fanny Brice (Kimberly Faye Greenberg) in the Ziegfeld Follies. Seduced by the decadent world of the theater, Olive stumbles into a secret affair, an unfulfilling Hollywood marriage, and a downward spiral into drugs and alcohol. Eagan will play the role of Molly Cook, Olive's best friend and fellow showgirl, who ultimately unleashes a major secret. Matt Leisy has been cast as Olive’s husband, Jack Pickford. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
Eagan won a Best Featured Actress Tony Award for her portrayal of Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden. Her other Broadway credits include Les Miserables and James Joyce's The Dead. Her film and TV credits include Losing Isaiah, Ripe, Tony n' Tina's Wedding, Without a Trace, Ghost Whisperer, Numb3rs and The Unit. Eagan won an LA Weekly Award for her performance in The Wild Party at The Blank Theatre Company.
Now in its eighth year, the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) is the largest annual musical theater event in America and provides a launching pad for the next generation of musicals. A total of 26 new tuners will receive full productions during the festival, which runs September 26-October 16 at venues throughout the theater district.
