Death Takes a Holiday, the new musical from Tony-winning composer Maury Yeston, will soon record a cast album on the PS Classics label. The recording will take place on August 8 in Manhattan, in anticipation of an early fall release date. Kevin Earley, who took over the role of Death when original star Julian Ovenden withdrew from the show for health reasons, will be heard on the album.
In addition to Earley, the cast of Death Takes a Holiday features Linda Balgord, Matt Cavenaugh, Mara Davi, Joy Hermalyn, Jay Jaski, Simon Jones, Rebecca Luker, Patricia Noonan, Jill Paice, Michael Siberry, Alexandra Socha, Don Stephenson and Max Von Essen. Doug Hughes directs the Roundabout Theatre production, which runs through September 4 at off-Broadway’s Laura Pels Theatre.
The production features a score by Yeston and a book by the late Peter Stone (1776) and Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray). Kevin Stites is the musical supervisor/musical director, and orchestrations are by Tony Award winner Larry Hochman (The Book of Mormon).
