Tony Award winner Randy Graff, Mary Bacon, Saidah Arrika Ekulona and James Lecesne will star in Motherhood Out Loud at off-Broadway's Primary Stages. Performances begin September 20, with opening night set for October 4, running through October 29. The show is conceived by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein and will be directed by Lisa Peterson.
Motherhood Out Loud is billed as a a joyous, moving and hilarious play that shatters traditional notions about parenthood, unveils its inherent comedy and celebrates the deeply personal truths that span and unite generations. The script was a collaborative effort by playwrights Leslie Ayvazian, David Cale, Jessica Goldberg, Beth Henley, Lameece Issaq, Claire LaZebnik, Lisa Loomer, Michele Lowe, Marco Pennette, Theresa Rebeck, Luanne Rice, Annie Weisman and Cheryl L. West.
Graff earned a Tony Award for City of Angels and an additional nomination for A Class Act. Her other Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof, High Society, Moon Over Buffalo, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Falsettos, Les Miserables and Grease. Bacon has appeared on Broadway in Rock 'n Roll and Arcadia. Her off-Broadway work includes Happy Now?, An Oak Tree and Treason. Ekulona has appeared on Broadway in Well in addition to off-Broadway's Ruined, Romeo and Juliet, Unconditional and A Streetcar Named Desire. Lecesne's stage credits include The Boys in the Band and Word of Mouth.
Motherhood Out Loud premiered at Hartford Stage and recently had a West Coast premiere at the Geffen Playhouse under the title In Mother Words.
The Primary Stages production will feature set design by Rachel Hauk, costume design by David C. Woolard, lighting design by Christopher Kuhl and sound design by Jill B.C. DuBoff.
