Steffanie Leigh will make her Broadway debut in the title role of Mary Poppins at Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre on October 11, replacing Laura Michelle Kelly, who will give her final performance on October 9.
Leigh has played the magical nanny for the past eight months on the show’s North American tour. Regional credits include Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Beauty and the Beast, 42nd Street, Into the Woods, Grease, Mame and Les Miserables.
The Broadway cast of Mary Poppins currently includes Tony Award nominee Gavin Lee as Bert, Karl Kenzler as George Banks, Megan Osterhaus as Winifred Banks, Valerie Boyle as Mrs. Brill, Ann Arvia as Bird Woman, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Robertson Ay, Ruth Gottschall as Miss Andrew and Jonathan Freeman as Admiral Boom. Alternating in the role of Jane Banks are Rozi Baker, Brigid Harrington and Kara Oates; alternating in the role of Michael Banks are Lewis Grosso, David Gabriel Lerner and Anthony Scarpone-Lambert.
Mary Poppins debuted in London in December 2004 starring Kelly (who received an Olivier Award) and Lee. It opened on Broadway on November 16, 2006.
