Tony nominee Adam Pascal will assume the role of Huey Calhoun in the Tony-winning musical Memphis on October 25, at the Shubert Theatre. The final performance for Chad Kimball, who earned a Tony nod for creating the role, is set for October 23.
Pascal received a Tony nomination for playing Roger in the original cast of Rent. He later reprised the role in the musical's 2005 film adaptation and returned to the Broadway production (alongside Anthony Rapp) in 2007 and subsequently joined the national tour. He has also appeared on Broadway in Aida and Cabaret. Pascal has released several solo albums, including Civilian and Model Prisoner.
Set in 1960s Memphis, the musical follows Huey, a white radio jockey, as he pursues Felicia, a beautiful African-American singer. Despite racial barriers, the couples strives to make their relationship work and launch Felicia's career through Huey's own radio show.
Featuring music by David Bryan and lyrics by Bryan and Joe Di Pietro, Memphis opened on Broadway on October 19. 2009. The show earned four Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Memphis will kick off its first national tour in its namesake city on October 14.
