One of the most acclaimed plays of 2011 is making the jump to Broadway: Tickets are now on sale for Other Desert Cities, a fascinating family saga by Jon Robin Baitz, creator of TV’s Brothers & Sisters. Original cast members Stockard Channing, Stacy Keach and Thomas Sadoski will be joined by Brothers & Sisters star Rachel Griffiths and 2011 Tony nominee Judith Light when the play begins performances at the Booth Theatre on October 12, directed by Tony winner Joe Mantello.
Other Desert Cities centers on the Wyeth family, which has gathered for the holidays at the stylish Palm Springs home of the parents (played by Channing and Keach), staunch Republicans who served in the Reagan administration. Prodigal daughter Brooke (Griffiths) and laid-back son Trip (Sadoski) disagree with their parents’ politics, and Brooke has written a memoir revealing family secrets. Egging her on is her acerbic alcoholic Aunt Silda (Light).
The play originally opened at Lincoln Center Theater’s off-Broadway house, the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre, on January 13, and now Broadway audiences will get the chance to see this riveting portrait of an American family, which officially opens on November 3. Get tickets now!
