Tony winner Nathan Lane may return to TV as an unlucky Broadway actor in a currently untitled comedy pilot ordered by USA network, according to Deadline.com. Lane serves as an executive producer for the project, which was previously called On We Go, and is in negotiations to star as well.
The series follows a down-on-his-luck actor who must put his Broadway ambitions on hold and return to his Texas hometown to take care of his ailing father.
Lane earned Tony Awards for The Producers and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He received Emmy Awards for Teacher's Pet and Timon and Pumbaa as well as additional nominations for Modern Family, Mad About You and Frasier. His other Broadway credits include The Addams Family, Waiting for Godot, November, Butley, The Odd Couple, The Frogs, Love! Valour Compassion!, Guys and Dolls (Tony nomination), On Borrowed Time, Some Americans Abroad and Merlin.
Lane previously starred in the short-lived opera-themed sitcom Encore! Encore! as well as the NBC congressional comedy Charlie Lawrence.
