Nathan Lane has signed on for the upcoming film The English Teacher, starring fellow Broadway veteran Julianne Moore and Greg Kinnear, according to Deadline.com. The movie marks the directorial film debut of TV director Craig Zisk (Nurse Jackie, Weeds) and features a script by Dan and Stacy Charlton.
The movie follows a popular high school English teacher (Moore) whose personal life is a far cry from the sunny disposition she displays in her classroom. When a former student, who failed as a playwright in New York, returns home, she convinces him to mount his unproduced play at the high school. Lane will play the school's drama teacher.
The English Teacher marks the second high profile gig this week for Lane, who as an executive producer, sold a TV pilot to USA network. He is also in negotiation to star in the currently untitled series. Lane earned Tony Awards for The Producers and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. His many film and TV credits include The Birdcage, Mousehunt, The Nutcracker 3D, Modern Family, Frasier, The Lion King and Charlie Lawrence.
The film is produced by Artina Films, Naomi Despres, Robert Salerno, Matthew Chausse and Ben LeClair.
