Grammy-winning 1970s musical mainstay The Eagles may be turning their hit single and album "Hotel California" into a Broadway musical, according to Deadline.com. While the band continues to tour, Live Nation executive Irving Azoff told Deadline that they are also planning a Broadway musical called Hotel California.
Released in late 1976, Hotel California was the band’s fifth studio album and its highest seller, moving over 16 million copies in the U.S. alone. There is no information yet about whether the show would feature songs from that album, new material, or be created from the Eagles extensive catalog. Along with “Hotel California,” the band scored hits with “Take It Easy,” “Witchy Woman,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” and “Desperado,” and many others.
Should Hotel California make it to Broadway, The Eagles will join the list of rock acts currently represented on the Rialto. Broadway spectacle Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark features new music from U2’s Bono and The Edge, while rock star Sting and Pulitzer Prize winning librettist Brian Yorkey are bringing a reading of their new musical The Last Ship to New York this fall.
