In honor of the forthcoming return of a certain Tony-winning hunk in Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway, Broadway.com asked readers to vote for the Jackman film they’d most like to see turned into a Broadway musical. Take a look below to find out which star vehicles made the top three!
1. The Prestige (2006) - 32%
Some serious stage magic could be made with this mystery thriller about the rivalry between two 19th century magicians, Robert Angier and Alfred Borden. Following a tragic accident during a show, each man becomes obsessed with sabotaging the performance of the other. Onstage magic, love affairs aplenty and long-simmering revenge fantasies? That sounds worthy of a Broadway tuner to us!
2. Kate & Leopold (2001) - 28%
Swoon! It’s an unlikely romantic pairing in this time-travelling rom-com: Kate is a modern New York career woman, and Leopold Alexis Elijah Walker Thomas Gareth Mountbatten, Duke of Albany, is an 1870s gentleman brought to the 21st century through a rift in time. But is there anything more musical-worthy than love conquering all odds and men in gorgeous 19th century clothing?
3. Australia (2008) - 11%
This sweeping 2008 historical drama would bring the Australian outback to the Broadway stage, and with it the sexy, sweaty cattle drover (called “Drover”) played on screen by Jackman. Add in a love story with an uptight British land owner, World War II drama and aboriginal culture clash with a killer Broadway score, and this story that could definitely rival the epic-est of epic musicals.
