As a young playwright and aspiring actress with an unusual (to say the least) working relationship, Jonathan Groff and Rutina Wesley are going head to head in the racially heated new play The Submission, and Broadway.com resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson took a seat at the Lucille Lortel Theatre to watch the artistic fur fly! These two, joined by Eddie Kaye Thomas and Will Rogers, are duking it out over issues of race, gender and cultural ownership. Check out this charged piece of portraiture, then head off-Broadway and see this fierce foursome in the flesh.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Click to e-mail Squigs. Photo by Matthew Murphy
