Wow, we learned a lot this week, about Broadway stars, reality TV stars, porn stars... Here it is, our weekly recap of the top ten nuggets of knowledge of the week!
Up-and-Comer Jeremy Jordan is Not a Porn Star
Jeremy Jordan is having a busy fall as the star of Disney’s Newsies at Paper Mill Playhouse and his upcoming gig as half of the iconic bank-robbing team in Broadway’s Bonnie & Clyde. Despite his ever-growing resume, Jordan notes on this week’s Show People with Paul Wontorek that his credits do not include films like Manly Heat and Hard to Hold despite having the same name as a gay adult film star. Glad he cleared that up!
Sheryl Crow is Moving from Santa Monica Blvd. to Broadway
Grammy winner Sheryl Crow will make her first foray into musical theater to compose the score for the musical adaptation of the popular 1982 film Diner. Original film director/screenwriter Barry Levinson will pen the production's book, which follows former high school pals coming to grips with the pressures of adulthood. Who wants an ensemble musical set in 1959 Baltimore? “I got a feeling I'm not the only one.”
There Are Stage Roles Aplenty for DWTS Standout Chaz Bono
Transexual activist Chaz Bono, famous as the daughter-turned-son of Sonny and Cher, just made his Dancing With the Stars debut. Broadway.com staffers put on our casting director caps and imagined some great stage roles that might be a good fit for him. From The Addams Family’s beloved Uncle Fester to Chicago’s slick Billy Flynn, it turns out there are plenty of options for Bono to boogie over to Broadway. Come on Chaz... Come give us the old “razzle dazzle.”
Next Week's Glee Is Going to Be Awesome!
Gleeks, rejoice! Musical theater lovers have been waiting (and waiting and waiting) for the promised reunion of onscreen mother and daughter, Idina Menzel and Lea Michele, on the third season of Glee. Sounds like it was worth the wait! Menzel’s Shelby Corcoran and Michele's Rachel Berry came together for a beautiful duet of “Somewhere” from West Side Story. Consider our heartstrings tugged.
Neil Patrick Harris Says Sluttiness Leads to Stardom
When it comes to doling out advice to hopeful young actors, no one puts it quite like Neil Patrick Harris. In this week's Entertainment Weekly, Harris shared this sage Hollywood wisdom: “Be a Slut (Professionally Speaking).” Apparently that means if you get a chance to put glitter on your nipples and simulate onstage sex, don’t even think about saying no. “Provided it’s Cabaret on Broadway and not in some dude’s basement,” he clarified. We hope that’s not a lesson learned the hard way, Neil!
Morgan Freeman May Have a Back-Up Career
Champagne toasts and teary speeches weren’t the only revelations following the starry benefit reading of Dustin Lance Black’s 8. It seems that Morgan Freeman, who starred as attorney David Boies has found himself another career option. “It’s great to have somebody like Morgan Freeman play you,” Boies said. “The only scary thing is my clients are now going to say ‘I’d rather have that guy represent me’…and I wouldn’t blame them!” Hey, the man has played God. Freeman can read us a closing statement any day.
Kristin Chenoweth Fears Cooter Smashes
With her new album Some Lessons Learned hitting stores, you’d think Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth has had her fill of doling out advice. But in a recent video, Cheno shared a tough lesson from her own life, just for the ladies. Specifically, ladies who wear slippers. If you’re going to wear them on concrete stairs, she says, beware of falling and, um, suffering a “cooter smash.” We don’t know about you, but “Cooter Smash” sounds like a hit single to us.
Zuzanna Szudkowski and Andrew Rannells Were Puppy Parents
Gossip Girl’s Zuzanna Szudkowski, who’s currently appearing for the second time in Love, Loss and What I Wore, used to be the roommate of Tony-nominated Book of Mormon star Andrew Rannells. Before they hit the big time, the pair adopted a chihuahua together. “We’d walk him on the roof,” Szudkowski said of their not-so-responsible younger days as dog parents. On the roof?! "I believe..." there are safer places for dog-walking.
Stacy Frances is Alive and Well and Blowing Up On TV
We haven't heard from Stacy Frances, the sassy standout from Footloose, in over a decade when she suddenly popped up on our TVs this week, blowing away Simon Cowell. The single mom delivered big time on The X-Factor when she wowed the crowed with her powerful performance of “Natural Woman” and teary response to the judges' praise. Let's hear it for the girl!
Darren Criss Can't Wait to “Bend and Snap” on Broadway
Glee heartthrob Darren Criss is getting ready to take over the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and he’s so excited, he’s talking like a theater geek. “So I can't wait to hang out after our shows every night and talk about how our performances went,” he told Billboard Magazine. He even made a Legally Blonde reference. Omigod, you guys!
