Broadway-bound Glee star Darren Criss first made a splash as a member of Team StarKid, the Chicago-based performance ensemble whose web productions have become internet smash hits. Criss will take the stage with his StarKid pals when the company’s forthcoming national tour makes a stop at New York City’s Irving Plaza on November 26. Dubbed The Space Tour, the group’s 14-city engagement will kick off on November 4 at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, directed by Julia Albain.
According to the group’s website, StarKid was formed by students in the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theater, and Dance. In April 2009, with a budget of less than $150, the group premiered their original musical parody A Very Potter Musical, starring Criss in the title role. Three months later, videos of the show were posted to YouTube, and in just under two years, StarKid’s original works have garnered over 64 million views.
The live production will reportedly feature the company's greatest hits, include the original Potter musical, A Very Potter Sequel, Me and My Dick and Starship. Criss will make his guest appearance while prepping for his three-week stint as J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, beginning January 3 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
In addition to the Irving Plaza engagement, Team StarKid’s tour will play the London Music Hall in London, Ontario (November 5), The Mod Club in Toronto (November 6), House of Blues in Cleveland (November 7), The Bottom Lounge in Chicago (November 8), House of Blues in New Orleans (November 10), Antone's in Austin (November 12), House of Blues in Dallas (November 13), Center Stage Theater in Atlanta (November 15), The Fillmore Charlotte (November 19), The Fillmore Silver Spring (November 20), Bogart's in Cincinnati (November 22), and House of Blues in Boston (November 25).
